SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bills 4, 423, and 593. These measures seek to tackle the deepening crisis of housing affordability in California by extending landmark streamlining provisions, allowing faith institutions and nonprofit colleges to build affordable housing, and opening up new funding sources to correct the legacy of racist housing mass-demolition in San Francisco.

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Public Safety Committee passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 97, which removes senseless barriers to overturning wrongful convictions. The bill passed 8-0 with bipartisan support and heads next to the Assembly floor.

“Allowing wrongful convictions to stand undermines justice for everyone,” said Senator Wiener. “I am incredibly grateful to my colleagues in the Assembly who have joined me in fighting for wrongfully convicted individuals. I look forward to seeing this bill pass the Assembly floor.”

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly’s Public Safety Committee passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 58, which decriminalizes possession and use of a set of naturally occurring psychedelics, including psilocybin, psilocyn, Dimethyltryptamine (“DMT”), mescaline (excluding peyote), and ibogaine. The bill passed 5-2 and heads next to the Assembly Health Committee.

SACRAMENTO – Last night, the Governor, Senate, and Assembly announced a final agreement on the state budget, including restoring a $2 billion cut to transit capital projects and adding $1.1 billion for transit operations to avert the transit fiscal cliff. Over several months, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) led a coalition of legislators and advocates to secure the funding.

SACRAMENTO – Today, a group of Bay Area lawmakers led by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced SB 532, the Safe, Clean, and Reliable Public Transportation Emergency Act. SB 532 will temporarily raise tolls on 7 state-owned bridges in the Bay Area by $1.50 for 5-years. The bill provides much-needed public transportation funding to prevent service cuts and improve safety, cleanliness, and reliability.

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Natural Resources Committee passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 273, legislation to authorize a mixed use project to revitalize San Francisco’s Piers 30-32 and restore its crumbling infrastructure. The bill passed 10-0-1 with bipartisan support and heads next to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Local Government Committee passed Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 593, the San Francisco Replacement Housing Act. SB 593 will create a tax increment financing structure to replace 5,800 affordable homes lost during the 1950s-70s era of redevelopment or “urban renewal.” The bill passed 7-1 with bipartisan support and heads next to the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee.
