SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 836 passed the Senate by a vote of 28-0. It will head to the Assembly for policy committee hearings. This legislation will extend the safeguards from SB 785 (Wiener, 2018), which protected a person’s immigration status in a public court record, unless the presiding judge determined that immigration status was relevant information. This legislation had a sunset date of January 1, 2022, so it has now expired.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1186, which restores voter-created access to medicinal cannabis across the state by requiring cities to provide patients access to purchase medicinal cannabis by delivery, passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee by a vote of 4-1. It now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to improve patient access to quality health care, Senate Bill 853 and Senate Bill 858, passed the Senate Health Committee by votes of 10-0 and 8-1 respectively. SB 858 will now head to the Senate Judiciary Committee, and SB 853 will head to the Senate Appropriations Committee. SB 858, the Health Plan Accountability Act, updates and increases penalties for health plans that violate state law in denying or delaying insurance coverage.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 834, the No Tax Exemption for Insurrection Act, passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee. It will now head to the Senate Public Safety Committee.

SAN FRANCISCO - SPUR announced the publication of its new report, Accelerating Sustainable Transportation in California: An analysis of Senate Bill 288 and recommendations to extend and improve the law. Senate Bill 288, authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and passed into law in 2020, accelerates sustainable transit and active transportation projects in urban areas of the state.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 923, the TGI Inclusive Care Act passed the Senate Health Committee by a vote of 8-2. It will now head the Senate Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1144, the Safe and Efficient Water Act, passed the Senate Governmental Organization Committee by a vote of 10-1. It will now head to the Senate Education Committee. SB 1144 requires public schools and state agencies to complete a water quality and efficiency assessment on their facilities. This bill ensures our public schools and state agencies have safe, drinkable water. Far too many school children and other California residents currently lack access to clean water.
