Senator Wiener's Statement in Response to the Trump Administration's Opposition to Federal LGBT Employment Protections

July 27, 2017

Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's opposition to federal LGBT employment protections:

“Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions' decision to oppose federal employment protections for LGBT people yet again shows this Administration's utter disdain for the rights and dignity of our community. In most states, an LGBT person can be fired simply for being LGBT. No other reason is required. Our community desperately needs federal civil rights protections so that we can be who we are in all 50 states. It's tragic that the President doesn't share this basic value of fairness in the workplace. Let's recommit to ending discrimination in all its forms.”
