Senator Wiener’s Statement on the election of new Senate President pro Tem Toni Atkins

Sacramento –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement after Senator Toni Atkins was officially elected to serve as the President pro Tempore of the California State Senate:

“Today is an incredible day for California and the State Senate as we elect the first woman and the first member of the LGBT community to serve as our leader. Senator Toni Atkins has the vision, wisdom, and tenacity to lead the California Senate as we continue to push forward a progressive agenda that will improve the lives of Californians, meet the many needs of our state, and serve as a model for other states across this country.  As a member of the LGBT community, a State Senator, and a resident of California, I’m proud and inspired to have joined in the effort to elect Senator Atkins to lead the California State Senate.”
