Senator Scott Wiener’s Statement on Governor Newsom’s Inauguration

January 7, 2019

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) made the following statement upon the inauguration of Gavin Newsom as Governor of California:

“I am eager to get to work with Governor Newsom on the key issues impacting our great state. California faces huge challenges, including our housing shortage, homelessness, climate change, wildfires, poverty, aging infrastructure, and a chronic water shortage. We will meet these challenges only with strong leadership, and I know that Governor Newsom will work with the Legislature to provide that leadership. Throughout his time as an elected official, Governor Newsom has shown the qualities we want and expect in a public servant. He is dedicated to a government that works for the people, and understands that while change can be hard, we must not ever shy away from it. Today is a historic day for California, and I look forward to getting to work.”
