Senator Wiener’s Statement on the Cow Palace Board of Directors Voting to End Gun Shows

May 16, 2019

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) made the following statement after the Cow Palace Board of Directors voted to end gun shows at the Cow Palace:

“While I am happy that the Cow Palace Board of Directors voted to end gun shows, it shouldn’t have taken decades for the Board to do so. For many years, the local community has been asking the Cow Palace to stop the gun shows, but the Cow Palace ignored those pleas. I am now the third Senator over the past 15 years to author a bill banning gun shows at the Cow Palace, but the Cow Palace still ignored us. Now that we are pursuing legislation to get to the root of the problem by transferring the Cow Palace’s land to local control—SB 281—the Cow Palace is paying attention. It shouldn’t have taken our legislation to get the Cow Palace to pay attention. Today’s decision to end the gun shows, while welcome, does not change the need for fundamental change at the Cow Palace.”
