New Statewide Poll Shows Two-Thirds Support for SB 50, the More HOMES Act

May 17, 2019

Sacramento–  Today, a new statewide poll was released showing 66% of California voters support Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) SB 50, the More HOMES Act. The poll showed support in all regions and among all demographics. Support was especially strong among Black and Latino communities, people under 40, and renters. SB 50 eliminates hyper-low-density zoning near transit and job centers, thus legalizing apartment buildings and affordable housing in these locations so that more people can live near transit and near where they work.

This new poll follows a recent poll showing 61% statewide support for SB 50.

Senator Wiener issued the following statement:

“Californians everywhere get it. We’re in a severe housing crisis and we need more homes now. No matter where you go in California, everyday people are feeling the impact of our 3.5 million home deficit. As we aim to produce more housing, we must legalize apartment buildings close to job centers and public transit, and Californians want that. When asked if they would like to see new apartments in their own communities, a majority of voters said yes. It’s time to stop kicking the can down the road and instead do what Californians want us to do: address our housing crisis now.”
