Senator Wiener’s Statement on SB 50 Moving to the Senate Floor

January 27, 2020

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener (D- San Francisco) issued the following statement regarding SB 50 moving to the Senate floor. It is now eligible for a Senate floor vote.

“After two years of broad-based collaborative work on SB 50 and its predecessor, SB 827, I’m encouraged to see the legislation heading to the Senate floor. We have an extreme housing shortage in California – millions of homes –and Californians are hurting. We have a responsibility to take bold action to make people’s lives better by ensuring we have enough housing for everyone who needs it, and by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. SB 50 is a strong step in the right direction. I’m looking forward to making the case on the Senate floor about why we need to pass this progressive, impactful and forward-looking legislation.”
