State Sen. Scott Wiener is following through on his plan to try reshaping the investor-owned Pacific Gas and Electric Co. into a government-run utility.

Wiener, D-San Francisco, said Monday that he would introduce legislation to end PG&E’s more-than-a-century-long run as a private company. He formally announced the move in front of the state building in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, flanked by Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, Norman Yee and Aaron Peskin, former California Public Utilities Commission president Loretta Lynch and others.
