Senator Wiener’s Statement on Announcements from Gov Newsom & Mayor Breed to Increase Healthcare Workforce and Extend Shelter-in-Place

March 30, 2020

San Francisco - Senator Scott Wiener made the following statement regarding Governor Newsom's Executive Order allowing nursing and medical students to apply for temporary licensing to enter the workforce, and Mayor Breed's announcement that the Bay Area will extend its shelter-in-place order until May 1st:

“Today, Mayor Breed and Governor Newsom took decisive steps to help our medical system absorb the impact of the COVID-19 emergency. I fully support Mayor Breed’s announcement that the shelter-in-place order will be extended to May 1st. We must continue to flatten the curve and to build on our successes. And, Governor Newsom’s significant expansion of eligible healthcare workers will help our healthcare system weather this storm. I’m deeply grateful to have such effective and forward-looking political leadership in our city and state during these dark times. Working together, we will make it through this crisis and get to a better place.”
