Senator Wiener’s Statement on Federal Court Allowing Enforcement of California’s Net Neutrality Law

February 24, 2021

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) issued a statement following the United States District Court's decision to uphold the enforcement of net neutrality in California. Senator Wiener authored and passed SB 822, the California Internet Consumer Protection and Net Neutrality Act of 2018, but the legislation had previously been tied up in court since being signed into law by former Governor Jerry Brown.

“Today’s federal court ruling allowing California to enforce our net neutrality law is a huge victory for open access to the internet, our democracy, and our economy," Senator Wiener said. "The internet is at the heart of modern life. We all should be able to decide for ourselves where we go on the internet and how we access information. We cannot allow big corporations to make those decisions for us.”
