SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation, Senate Bill 110, passed the Senate by a unanimous, bipartisan vote. This legislation will address the worsening methamphetamine addiction crisis facing our state. The Recovery Incentives Act legalizes the substance use disorder treatment known as “contingency management,” and authorizes Medi-Cal to cover it. Contingency management has proven to be the most effective method of treatment for methamphetamine addiction, and is frequently used as a treatment program by the Veterans Affairs Administration.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Bar and Restaurant Recovery Act, Senate Bill 314, passed the Senate with bipartisan unanimous vote. SB 314 will extend the popular and successful outdoor dining and parklet regulations currently in place because of the pandemic. SB 314 will help California’s restaurants, bars, and music venues recover economically from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by creating more flexibility in how they can serve alcohol, including where they can serve and how they can share spaces with other businesses.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 357, the Safer Streets for All Act, passed the full Senate by a vote of 29-9. It now heads to the Assembly for policy committee hearings.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s legislation Senate Bill 339, the Gas Tax Alternative Pilot, passed the Senate by a vote of 26-9. This pilot program, which allows California to study a road user charge based on vehicle miles traveled (VMT) instead of relying on gas taxes, is a critical strategy as the state transitions away from fossil fuels. Gas taxes fund California’s roads, highway system, and public transportation systems.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation, SB 221, which would require health plans and insurers to provide patients with timely follow-up care for mental health issues and substance use disorders, passed the Senate by a vote of 32-7. It will now head to the Assembly to be heard in policy committees.

SACRAMENTO - Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s housing legislation, Senate Bill 478, passed the Senate by a vote of 29-5. SB 478 will now head to the Assembly. It is sponsored by California YIMBY.

SACRAMENTO - Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Housing Data Act, Senate Bill  477, passed the Senate by a bipartisan vote of 36-0. SB 477 will now head to the Assembly. This legislation is sponsored by California YIMBY and SPUR.

SACRAMENTO- Twelve of Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bills, including legislation to decriminalize psychedelics, strengthen mental health and substance use disorder care, and increase the amount of housing affordable to working families, will be taken up for a full Senate vote over the next two weeks.

The deadline for approving the bills is Friday, June 4th, after which they will move to the Assembly.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s SB 234, the SUPPORT Act (Supporting Underserved Young People for Positive Resets and Transitions), has been incorporated into Governor Newsom’s proposed budget, announced on Friday. The governor’s May Revise includes $200 million, an increase from SB 234’s original $100 million proposal, to fund new housing, or acquire existing housing, for transition age youth between ages 16 and 26. The housing will be targeted toward young people who are homeless, in or exiting foster care, or exiting the criminal justice system.
