Sacramento – Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced a bill, sponsored by San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón, to close a loophole that hampers prosecutions for automobile break-ins. Senate Bill 916 allows prosecutors to prove that a defendant committed an auto burglary by showing that he or she broke a car window to get into the car. Currently, proving that the defendant broke a window is often deemed insufficient.

Sacramento – Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced the introduction of a new Housing First legislative package to continue the work from last legislative session to create more housing in California. The three bills mandate denser and taller zoning near transit, create a more data-driven and less political Regional Housing Needs Assessment process (RHNA provides local communities with numerical housing goals), and expand farmworker housing opportunities while maintaining strong worker protections.
Sacramento – Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced Senate Bill 822 to establish net neutrality protections in California. This is the first day the California Legislature is in session since the Federal Communications Commission repealed Net Neutrality on December 14 of last year. At that time, Senator Wiener declared he would introduce legislation to require net neutrality in California.
San Francisco – Today San Francisco’s paid parental leave ordinance, which Senator Scott Wiener authored as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, expands to cover workers who work at businesses with 20 or more employees. When the ordinance first went into effect on January 1, 2017, it only applied to businesses with 50 or more employees. Only July 1, 2017, it expanded to include businesses with 35 or more employees. As of today, it applies to businesses with 20 or more employees.
