Sacramento –  Today the Assembly Public Safety committee approved a bill by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) to protect immigrants from irrelevant disclosures of their immigration status in open court. Senate Bill 785 is sponsored by San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and is co-authored by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco). SB 785 was approved by the Assembly Public Safety Committee by a unanimous and bipartisan vote.

Sacramento – Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced new policy details to his bill to preserve net neutrality. Senate Bill 822 puts California at the national forefront of ensuring an open internet. It establishes comprehensive and enforceable net neutrality standards to ensure that all California residents have the right to choose whether, when, and for what purpose they use the internet.

Sacramento –  Today the Senate Governmental Organization Committee approved Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bill to allow – but not require – cities to extend sales of alcohol at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (but not liquor stores) to as late as 4 a.m. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

San Francisco –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement after the developers of a large housing project in Berkeley that had been stalled for years announced they are invoking SB 35 streamlining. Senator Wiener authored SB 35 last year to expedite housing approvals. The Berkeley project includes 50% onsite affordable housing, which means 130 new units of affordable housing, and 260 units overall, will be built in Berkeley.

Sacramento –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) will introduce the first set of amendments to Senate Bill 827, which allows for more housing near public transportation. In January, Senator Wiener introduced SB 827 as part of his Housing First package, which also includes bills to reform the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) process and to expand farmworker housing opportunities while maintaining strong worker protections.
