Statement from Senator Wiener on Passage of Road Repair and Transportation Package

April 7, 2017

Sacramento –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement after the Senate passed Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Transportation package.

“After years of ignoring our crumbling and limited transportation system, today we finally pulled our heads out of the sand and took an enormous step forward to improve California’s public transportation system and roads. When this funding package was first presented, I was clear that we needed to guarantee more funding for public transportation projects. I’m proud that the bill we approved today guarantees nearly triple the amount of funding for public transportation than what had previously been proposed. This is a big win for the future of public transportation in California. By getting people out of their cars and onto public transportation, we can reduce gridlock on our roads and highways, we can grow our economy, and we can better meet our climate goals. We have more work to do to expand and fund public transportation, but today was a great step and I want to thank all of my colleagues in the Senate and the Assembly, particularly Senator Jim Beall, for their work on this issue.”
