Senator Wiener speaks in the Public Safety Committee on the importance of California's leadership in fighting federal attacks against local immigrant communities and defending the rights of sanctuary cities.
Senator Wiener spoke on the Senate Floor in support of Senate Resolution 16, which opposed President Trump's Executive Order to ban refugees and immigration from Muslim-majority countries.
Today Senator Wiener joined Senator Toni Atkins and supporters of Senate Bill 179, which will create a third, nonbinary gender marker on California birth certificates, driver’s licenses, identity cards and gender-change court orders, as well as streamline the processes for Californians to apply to the state for a change in gender on these identifying documents.
Today on the Senate Floor, Senator Wiener spoke in support of Senate Resolution 9, which opposes the defunding of Planned Parenthood by the federal government, including stating the following:
"Beyond the general assault on healthcare access, this also about the ability of woman to make health choices for themselves, and specifically reproductive health choices. When a woman decides to make a choice about her reproductive health, that is her decision to be made in consultation with her healthcare provider. It is none of my business, it is none of Congress' business, it is none of the business of the President of the United States. That choice belongs to that woman, and that woman alone. That's what this attack on Planned Parenthood is about, and we need to stand up for the woman of this state, and this country, and pass this resolution."
During the a deabte on the Senate Floor on December 5, Senator Wiener spoke in support of a Senate Resolution 7 to protect California's undocumented residents, including stating that "It is absolutely the right time for this body, this legislature to step forward and say, if you are going to come for our immigrant communities, you are going come through us first."
