“SF Pride 2020 - 50 Years” features eight San Francisco Bay Area photographers and filmmakers with over 450 photographs and seven filmsvideos spanning five decades documenting San Francisco Pride parades and events. The photographers and filmmakers include: Arthur Tress, Gooch, Ron Williams, Tommy Wu, Darryl Pelletier, Jim James, Rink, and Charles Roseberry.  Each photographer brings a wealth of history to create a narrative about the celebration of LGBTQ+ lives at our San Francisco Pride parades from the 1970s to 2019.

This online exhibit was originally planned to be displayed in the State of California Building in San Francisco and Senator Scott Wiener’s offices to celebrate this golden anniversary of San Francisco Pride. Due to the Covid19 pandemic and the cancelation of this year’s Pride parade, we have moved this incrediblehistoric exhibit online and expanded the installation with more photographs and videos.

There is still more education needed to pass our history down to future generations and not to not forget where LGBTQ rights started from and where we are today.not to forget the history of LGBTQ rights in relation to where we stand today. This is a document for us to reflect how far we have come. We celebrate the strong will of our community which has fought hard and showed the world that “we’re here, we’re queer,” and we haven’t finished claiming and gaining? our human and civil rights.

Joseph Abbati, Curator, has been working as Senator Scott Wiener’s office art curator since 2017.  Since then, they havehe has produced seasonal exhibits featuring San Francisco Bay Area artists. These exhibits have brought together a diverse group of artists on subjects such as housing, night life, artists over 50 years of age, API artists, LGBTQ Pride, the Global Climate Action Summit, and Latinx culture.

Senator Scott Wiener represents District 11 in the California State Senate. District 11 includes all of San Francisco, Broadmoor, Colma, and Daly City, as well as portions of South San Francisco.  He serves as the Chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus.
