SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) issued the following statement regarding his legislation, SB 939, which passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today by a vote of 5-1. Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) is a joint author of SB 939. It will now be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee in June. SB 939 would enact a moratorium on commercial evictions – for small businesses and nonprofits – during the COVID-19 State of Emergency.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) issued the following statement on the announcement of a Senate housing package.

Senator Wiener is a joint author of legislation with Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), SB 1120, which would allow two-unit zoning statewide and to allow lots to be subdivided, resulting in two duplex buildings (i.e., four units) per parcel. Senator Wiener is also authoring legislation, SB 902, to provide cities with an expedited, streamlined process to rezone land for up to ten-unit buildings.

SB 882 passed the Senate Health Committee with a unanimous bipartisan vote, and will now move on to the Appropriations Committee.

Sacramento - Today, Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) amended SB 939, which places a moratorium on commercial evictions of small businesses and nonprofits for the duration of the COVID-19 health emergency. The new amendments give businesses like bars, restaurants, and cafes the ability to renegotiate a lease if they have lost over 40% of their revenue due to COVID-19 restrictions and if they will operate at reduced capacity due to social distancing requirements.

Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin were the first couple to be married during San Francisco’s 2004 Winter of Love. Lyon was an LGBTQ civil rights pioneer and a pillar of the San Francisco LGBTQ community. She died of natural causes at the age of 95:
