San Francisco –  Today, Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo announced their support for Senator Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 50, the More HOMES Act.  SB 50 eliminates hyper-low-density zoning near transit and job centers, thus legalizing apartment buildings and affordable housing in these locations so that more people can live near transit and near where they work. It also reduces or eliminates minimum parking requirements for new developments.

Sacramento –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D- San Francisco) joined a coalition of criminal justice reform advocates and co-authors to announce the introduction of Senate Bill 136. SB 136 repeals a mandatory one-year sentence enhancement that is added to an individual’s base sentence for each prior prison or felony jail term served.  This enhancement impacts about one-third of people serving time in California prisons.

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) joined a coalition of transportation and health advocates to announce the introduction of Senate Bill 127, which will prioritize the creation of ‘complete streets,’ including safer and better designed sidewalks, bikeways, and crosswalks, on state highways that run through cities, towns, and neighborhoods.

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced the re-introduction of Senate Bill 58, which allows – but does not require – nine pilot cities to extend sales of alcohol at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (but not liquor stores) to as late as 4 a.m.

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced Senate Bill 48, which aims to ensure that homeless individuals and families throughout California have reasonable access to shelter, including navigation centers.  The bill is currently in “intent form,” which means the detailed policy will be developed over the coming months.  Senator Wiener plans to convene stakeholders to help craft policy that will create a “right to shelter” for unhoused residents throughout the state.
